Scholarships for Flight Training for British Citizens

There are scholarships for flight training available for British citizens.  Though they may not cover the full cost of flight training, it’s certainly still advantageous to reduce the cost of your tuition.  Some, though not all, may also cover flight training abroad, such as in the U.S.

They vary from providing training funding for a Private Pilot Certificate to others which are structured for advanced training or to allow the opportunity to build additional valuable flying hours. These awards can provide you with a competitive edge, as well as saving you money — and helping you complete your pilot certifications sooner.

Here are a few to check into if you are a British citizen:

  • GAPAN: The Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators — this organization offers a number of flight training scholarships, as well as bursaries, the latter allowing the furthering of  your pilot qualifications. Check into Past Mike Grayburn Award and The Cadogarn Charitable Trust for sponsorship of your Private Pilot Licence.  The Sir Adrian Swire Award and the Weetabix Charitable Trust sponsor aircraft type ratings.
  • THE AIR LEAGUE: The Air League Education Trust awards both bursaries and flight training scholarships.
  • THE RAF ASSOCIATION: Open to members of the Air Cadet Organization and the Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets, these scholarships have been running for nearly a decade.
  • BWPA: Awarding one scholarship for flight training annually, the British Women’s Pilots Association chooses a young woman between 17-26 years of age.

Phoenix East Aviation has been teaching the world to fly for over 40 years, training pilot candidates for airlines worldwide. For more details on flight training, see www.pea.com or call 1-386-258-0703 (worldwide) or 1-800-868-4359 (U.S.)
